I help people recover the small, stubborn work of daily life — especially when a hand, an arm, or a nervous system has other plans.
I am a community service occupational therapist at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital. My work sits across inpatient and outpatient wards: stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, seating, splinting, and the quieter labour of teaching someone how to dress, eat, or hold a cup again.
This is not a private rooms practice. Referrals run through the hospital. This page is my professional note — credentials, the direction of my interest, and a way to write to me.
I assess first, then intervene. Standardised and non-standardised assessment. Splints when the hand needs rest or position. Seating when the body needs a different architecture. Education when the work has to continue at home.
I work the ward as a team. Neurodevelopmental clinics with speech therapy, dietetics, physiotherapy, doctors and social work. Clubfoot clinic. Neuroatypical clinic with children and their parents. Reports for psychiatric, school, vocational and home settings.
I feel a particular pull toward upper limb work: fabricating splints, braces and slings, and the slower craft of getting a hand to participate again. I am studying further in hand therapy.
The upper limb is where most of a life is actually done.
I did my elective at Garden Route Hand Unit in George. I have taken courses in basic hand therapy, clinical examination of the hand, scapho-lunate rehabilitation, and practical splinting with the South African Society of Hand Therapists. My interest is clinical, not decorative.
My thesis at UCT asked how undergraduate occupational therapy students experience occupational balance, and what factors influence it. Final mark 80,3%. Before that I taught swimming at Little Dippers and Swimmable — including classes adapted for children with additional needs.
I co-founded Skllsets — pocket flashcards for health sciences students, built in my second year and still in use on the wards.
